Jerry Hoover: Camp Director
Jerry Hoover enters his 21st year of directing
D-1 Basketball Camps. Enrollment has grown from 80 to over 3500 campers during
that period. Sessions are now held on five campuses in four mid-west states.
Jerry has been an assistant coach at Indiana State and Saint Joseph's for 15 years, giving him 35 years of coaching experience at both high school and college levels. He is also a retired Colonel (Infantry) with 32 years of combined service. These experiences are the keystone of D-1 Camp's "teaching fundamental skills so that young players have fun learning with a strong dose of discipline." Jerry is the only coach in Indiana high school history to turn losing basketball programs into winning ones at seven schools including Ben Davis, Lake Central, North Judson, and Salem. Hoover coached high school players who received over $3,000,000 in scholarships including Randy Wittman of Indiana University. Jerry is currently the head girl's basketball coach at Logansport High School. He can be reached via e-mail at hoov@donecamps.com.
Al Rhodes: Camp Director
Al Rhodes, head basketball coach at Warsaw High School, started working
at Five-Star Basketball Camp in 1983. He and countless Warsaw Tiger basketball players have enjoyed the
benefits of being part of the Five-Star family. Five-Star Camp has been one of the main reasons that the
Tiger varsity basketball team and the Tiger basketball program has been number one in Indiana for the past
13 years. Coach Rhodes is extremely excited about bringing the advantages of the Five-Star experience
to young players in Indiana.
Coach Rhodes has been the head Boys' Basketball coach at Warsaw for 22 seasons. His overall record stands at 400 wins, 132 losses (75.2%). His teams have won 14 sectionals, 7 regionals, 4 semi-states, and the 1984 state championship. Al is widely recognized as the finest teacher of fundamental basketball skills by his peers, who have selected him to coach the Indiana All-Stars (1995), to be President of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (1996), and District Coach of the Year three times (1984, 1986, 1992). Al enjoys teaching basketball overseas, and has worked with both Australia and Turkey to improve basketball in those countries. Coach Rhodes is a great speaker and entertains thousands every year in that capacity. Coach Rhodes coached the 2005 McDonald's All-American team. After a successful stint at Logansport High School, Coach Rhodes is now rebuilding at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne. He is committed to making Junior Five-Star in Indiana the best basketball camp for boys ages 10-15 in the state of Indiana. Basketball Heaven has arrived!
Additional StaffCoach Al Rhodes will supervise a camp staff specifically selected for boys and girls at this age. The camp ratio of 1 coach per 8 campers is the lowest in the nation and will insure individual instruction and attention for every camper.
